Special housings for building technology and media technology
Never compromise on installation again
The requirements for building installation in electrical and media technology are as individual and different as the buildings and locations. Just like with Industry 4.0, the electrical installations for Buildings 4.0 are created here. Important topics of our time are energy efficiency and the digital networking of all systems from feed-in, distribution, video transmission, LAN and WLAN systems to detailed monitoring of all energy sources and consumers. Building networks are becoming more efficient and also more complex. It doesn't matter whether it's a residential building or a functional building. Where a simple power supply in the building used to be the norm, there are now various energy sources. From the traditional feed-in from the energy supplier, to the local solar system, battery storage and possibly also heat pumps for using waste heat. With the complexity of the installations and the many decentralized functions, the requirements for the control cabinets, terminal boxes and sub-distribution boards also grow.
An ingenious housing finds its way onto the big stage
In the beginning there was the idea
In this story, the customer Amptown has the task of bringing the Volksbühne Berlin's media technology up to date. More specifically, to provide every corner of this complex building with an HD video and audio signal. Every room, every stage, every chamber should be able to send and receive video signals via a matrix system using fiber optic technology. So again, something more exemplary: The video signal can be sent via a central control panel, for example from the cloakroom to the stage or vice versa, or to the kitchen, or to the cloister, or to the orchestra pit - in HD - that's clear, right?
Even more individual than individual
So far so good. Technologically this is of course possible. Things get exciting when you sometimes have to rely on the old, established infrastructure of the building installation. Some cable routes are just the way they are and you can't just make a new cable breakthrough in a building like this. Not to mention fire protection. And then there are the wishes of the planning office, and rightly so: the distributor housings should of course be almost invisible, but should be operable in the dark and only be as high as necessary. Those on stage should be matt black and those in the dressing room should be glossy white. And the front panel with switches and sockets should be covered by a door. Who would have thought, such a distributor or offset housing is not provided for in any catalog. The project manager at Amptown, Christian Schroeder, makes everything possible for his customers and while looking for customizable housings, he discovered our design and shop platform ARMARiO. Unfortunately, in this special case, the freely scalable models for control cabinets and terminal boxes do not fit the extraordinary requirements of the interior of the housing. For such extraordinary cases there is our ARMARiO live chat and of course also a hotline: +49 (7053) 96839-65. At the other end sits my colleague Jürgen Hörmann. And then he just did it.
Time is the critical factor in this business
From sketch to function, from sheet metal technology to the stage and from the Black Forest to Berlin. The problem: There are only 8 days left from the sketch to the installation date in the Volksbühne building. As always, it is the people who make the difference and make the (almost) impossible possible. Christian Schröder and Jürgen Hörmann obviously got along from the first minute and both understood what was important. Speed, speed and more speed and a portion of passion paired with precision. The sketch quickly matures into a 3D model in the CAD system and is passed back and forth virtually for coordination. “Can we also add gills to ventilate the active optical converters”? "Yes will work!" "We still need a retaining strip with a cover for the LED lighting in the interior of the housing." No problem!" All functions and therefore also the cable entries are planned down to the smallest detail and visualized in 3D. Because there is no time for rework during the installation. After 2 days, the steel sheets are already on the laser center for the Cutting, bent on the same day and welded the next day. Powder coating, sealing and assembly require another 2 days. Last but not least, express delivery to Berlin is a special challenge - but that's another story.
The ultimate solution
The result of such close and creative collaboration are truly unique housings that fit optimally into the special building infrastructure. Offset housings that offer the user optimal access to the operating and connector elements. Sub-distributors that also appeal to building planners because they are attractive on the one hand and inconspicuous on the other. And let's be honest: Even if we see it differently, the building installation certainly shouldn't be the focus of a stage performance. Rather, it can be invisible.
Do you also have a special project for which there is no catalog solution? We look forward to every challenge.
